|Description:||This is a copy editing position for Hart Energy's global downstream research and consulting division. The Assistant Editor will be primarily responsible for editing consulting reports and research studies on topics that include fuel quality, biofuels, alternative fuels and refining for the company's member services. These reports are of a technical nature. They are written by experts based around the world for a select audience that includes energy companies, the financial and investment community, engineering and automotive industries, utilities, leading NGOs and agencies of the world's major governments. |
The Assistant Editor will check the reports for accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, spelling and style (AP as well as Hart Energy's style guidelines). An important component of the position the ability to rewrite passages, on occasion, to enhance understanding of complex material, while ensuring that the essential message is accurately conveyed. Attention to detail is extremely important, as is strict adherence to deadlines. A sense of humor doesn't hurt, either.

Editing text for accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, spelling and style.
Working with research analysts and product managers to ensure consistent high quality of editorial products.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in English, journalism or related field and up to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Internet software; spreadsheet software (Excel); word processing software (Word); electronic mail software (Outlook); presentation software (PowerPoint). Knowledge or familiarity with the Bloomberg terminal is helpful. Also helpful is knowledge or familiarity with HTML.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Other Skills and Abilities: Expertise about the energy industry is not required, but a genuine interest in learning about the industry, especially fuels (gasoline and diesel), biofuels (ethanol and biodiesel), alternative fuels (CNG, methanol) and refining is essential. In other words, if you don't know what CNG is, that's OK. If you lack the basic curiosity to look it up, don't bother applying for this job.
Location: Hart Energy's global headquarters is located in Houston, Texas, but competent applicants will be considered from anywhere and will not necessarily be based in the company's headquarters.
